Sergio Garcia
Since 2004, when he tied for fourth, Sergio Garcia has missed three cuts at the Masters and finished no higher than a tie for 38th. With a three-under-par 33 on the first nine holes Saturday, Garcia moved to seven under for the tournament and was threatening to join the final groupings in Sunday’s fourth round.
Then Garcia bogeyed the 10th hole. And double-bogeyed the 11th. And bogeyed the 12th hole. Six holes and two more bogeys later, Garcia had carded a 42 on the back nine. He dropped to one under par and was tied for 30th.
Despite some good form over the past three days, one of the top golfers of the world, Garcia has seen his world rankings fall but still has one more day at Augusta to continue his slow and measured return.
"I tried hard, but I don't know, just my head kind of went out on 9 and I just couldn't recover," Garcia said. "... It's been a really bad nine."
