Niall Turner Starts Campaign at Sail Open

Niall Turner

Consecutive rounds of 69 on the last two days of Asian Tour Qualifying School at the Imperial Lakeview & Springfield Royal Country Club in Hua Hin, Thailand, last January saw Niall Turner shoot up the leader board and inside the vital top 40 places.

After an opening day 73 the Minnesota Graduate held his nerve to sign for a 70 on day two which he followed by the final two under par rounds – earning the reward of a card for the 2011 Asian Tour season.

This week Turner tees off in his maiden Asian Tour event at the Sail Open which is being played at the Delhi Golf Club, which was was built in 1931 and redesigned by Australian Peter Thomson in 1976.

The 2007 Indian Open was a historical event as Jyoti Randhawa followed in the footsteps of Thomson by lifting his third title at the Delhi Golf Club.

The par four ninth hole is the signature hole of the Club. It has a Champagne glass fairway with the green surrounded by bunkers. The 18th hole provides for a tricky finish with bunkers protecting the green.

The jungle is a unique feature of the Club. Players will be surrounded by hundreds of tree and bird species as they walk the narrow fairways and onto the greens which are fairly large in size. Another unique feature is that historical monuments are very much part of the course layout.
