Four members of Team Ireland – Rebecca Coakley, Tara Delaney, Martina Gillen and Hazel Kavanagh - make their way to the Netherlands this week to compete in the ABN AMRO Ladies Open which is being played at the Golfclub Broekpolder in north-west Rotterdam for the first time.
Rebecca Coakley was the only Irish player to make the cut last week in a stormy few days at the Gray Bear Club in Slovakia where weather conditions stopped play on numerous occasions with Coakley finishing in 50th place using a local caddy.
Tara Delaney, Martina Gillen and Hazel Kavanagh failed to earn a weekend stay in the Slovak Ladies Open so return to action looking to complete their first two rounds well inside the cut this week.
Alison Walshe elected to miss Lades European Tour [LET] action last week to play a sectorial qualifier for the Women’s US Open in Fort Lauderdale instead claiming one of the 12 places available at Woodmount Country Club. She will now add Oakmont Country Club on July 8th - 11th to her 2010 schedule.
Twelve months ago Tania Elosegui of Spain won the tournament by a stroke from Italian Diana Luna claiming her maiden Ladies European Tour title in the process at Eindhovensche Golf in Eindhoven.
This year the field is stronger and includes four of this year’s tournament winners in Laura Davies, Melissa Reid, Maria Hernandez and Anja Monke, ranked first, second, fourth and seventh on the LET Henderson Money List respectively.
In terms of local players the challenge is expected to come from Christel Boeljon, Marjet van der Graaff or Kyra van Leeuwen.
