Alison Walshe claimed one of the 12 places available at Woodmount Country Club in a sectional qualifier for the US Women’s Open and qualified for the Open to be played at Oakmont Country Club on July 8th-11th, 2010.
Walshe carded rounds of 70 and 74 for a 144 total to finish just four shots off the leading qualifier, Chella Choi from Korea (70, 70) with Karine Icher from Switzerland next best on 141 (72-69).
Career Summary
Alison Walshe turned professional in 2009 and finished 9th on the DURAMED Futures Tour money list to earn membership of the 2010 LPGA season. She played her collegiate golf at the University of Arizona, where she was a three time All-American with 10 individual wins.
In 2008 she was a member of the victorious US Curtis Team and played for the US World Amateur Team.
Walshe graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in marketing and is considered the best female player to emerge from the college the former world No 1 Lorena Ochoa -- whose predecessor at the top of the rankings, Annika Sorenstam, is another former student.
The 24-year-old, whose family emigrated to Boston when she was five years old, declared for Europe last January and hopes to earn a place on Alison Nicholas' European team to play the USA at Killeen Castle next year in the Solheim Cup.
Last December Walshe won her playing rights on the Ladies European Tour for 2010 and is part of the Team Ireland Golf Trust for this season.
