Hazel Kavanagh - Profile

The highlight for Hazel Kavanagh this season was a four under par 68 opening round at the ABN AMRO Ladies Open in the Netherlands for the lead of a Ladies European Tour event for the first time in her career – ahead of some of the great names in the Ladies game.

The round of 68 was also a ladies’ professional course record, as golfclub Broekpolder in Rotterdam had never before staged the tournament.

Since that weekend though the Dubliner has struggled with form, in what is her ninth season on Tour, missing nine cuts in the 18 tournaments entered with the UNIQA Ladies Golf Open in September the first event where Kavanagh finished in the money in 51st place. Currently Kavanagh is 121st in the Henderson Money List with €9,108.57.

In 2010 Kavanagh received a grant of €15,000 to assist in the effort to qualify for the European Solheim Cup Team in 2011 which will be hosted next year at Killeen Castle. However unable to build on the momentum from the ABN AMRO event - and not having a full budget to plan properly for the season - Hazel has tried to this season to maximise her efforts. However the rewards have eluded her so far this season.

Last season Hazel enjoyed her most successful of eight seasons, after regaining her card at qualifying school, with a career best finish of a tie for 3rd at the UNIQA Ladies Golf Open in Austria. She also finished inside the top 20 on three separate occasions: T13th at the Finnair Masters, T14th at the ABN AMRO Ladies Open and T15th at the Randstad Open de France Dames having competed in 16 events – finishing 45th on the Henderson Money List with €42,998.74.

In 2007 Hazel Kavanagh played with Rebecca Coakley at the $1.2 million Women's World Cup of Golf at the Gary Player Golf and Country Club in Sun City, South Africa which was the first time Ireland had competed in the event – finishing 27th.

That season Kavanagh played only four events and finished in 161st place failing to get her card for 2007 at the Tour Qualifying School.

As the Ladies European Tour nears conclusion this season the next event on the schedule is the Hero Honda Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf & Country Club in New Delhi, India, from November 11th -13th.
