At the First Stage of European Tour Qualifying School at Dundonald Links in September Trainor was one of the five qualifiers for the Second Stage - which will take place later this month – in what will be Trainor’s third trip to Q School in as many years. In 2008 Trainor finished in a tie for 43rd place.

Barrie Trainor turned Professional in September 2005 after helping his club Warrenpoint win the All Ireland Barton Shield. He joined Bray golf club and was accepted into the PGA 3 year training course in June 2006 entering the Irish PGA Assistants championship two weeks later where he won the title with rounds of 66, 66, 73, and 74 on the Montgomerie Course at Carton House.

He followed this victory with another win at the curtain opening Pro Am at Castlehume, Enniskillen where he finished second in the Ulster PGA Championship. That season he had five more top 10 finishes to end the year in 16th place in the Irish PGA Order of Merit.

In 2007 Trainor defended his Irish PGA Assistants title with an 11 under par total over four rounds at Dungarvan joining David Feherty and Damien McGrane as the only players to have won the Championship twice. Course records at Dungarvan 62 , Monkstown 64 and Galgorm Castle Golf Club 63.

He also had a second place finish in the British Assistants Championship at the London Club followed with left Barrie earning 9th place in the Irish PGA Order of Merit.

Trainor made history in 2008 when he won the Irish Assistants title for a third time back at Dungarvan setting another course record at Helens Bay with a round of 64 – in difficult conditions - and then had wins at Greystones, Beech Park, Luttrellstown, Black Bush and St Helens Bay Assistants.

At the Hi5 Pro Tour in Murcia Trainor finished second and then lost to Robert Giles in a playoff at the Quinn Insurance Pro- Am at Slieve Russell - after both players tied on 6 under par for 36 holes. With a total of 27 top 10 finishes on the Irish circuit Barrie ended the year in 7th position to earn a sport at the 3 Irish Open at Baltray in 2009.

The same season Barrie finished his final exams and became a fully qualified PGA Professional.

On the EUROPRO Tour he played in 10 events making the cut in 8 of them - with his best finish coming at the Motocaddy Masters at the Players Club in Bristol - where he finished 5th with a closing round of 64. Then a tenth place finish at the Tour Championship around Slaley Hall in Northumberland left Barrie 33rd on the final order of merit and a full playing calendar for 2010.

Despite only playing a limited number of events on the Irish circuit Trainor still managed to finish 6th in the 2009 Order of Merit following his win in the Ulster PGA Championship with a 68 at Castle Hume and a 66 around Lough Erne.

At the 3 Irish Open at Baltray Trainor played with Shane Lowry for the first 36 holes where he carded two rounds of 73.
