Team Ireland Tees Off in Buenos Aires


The 2010 World Amateur Championships for men - or Eisenhower Trophy - tee off on Thursday at the Buenos Aires and Olivos Golf Clubs with the title decided over 72 holes of stroke play with the total of the two lowest scores by players counting each round.

The Eisenhower Trophy is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for men organised by the International Golf Federation and is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States when the tournament was first played as he was a keen amateur golfer. 


Recent tournaments have featured teams from more than sixty countries and this year there are 70 countries competing. 


The team to represent Ireland on this occasion at the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) in Argentina from is: Paul Cutler of Portstewart; Alan Dunbar of Rathmore and Kevin Phelan of the University of North Florida. 

The non-travelling reserve is Dara Lernihan of Castle and the Irish Team Captain is Dr. Kevin Flanagan. 


Some of the Irish names associated with the event include Rory McIlroy, Brian McElhinney and Philip Walton.
