Q School Section D – Round 2


Round Two of the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 Section D was completed on Wednesday at both the venues – Wychwood Park in the United Kingdom and Circolo Golf Bogogno in Italy.

At Circolo Golf Bogogno, a local Italian player, Marco Guerisoli, carded a seven under par 65 to reach 12 under overall and lead Spain’s Francis Valera (67) by one. 

Frenchman Julien Grillion (67) is another shot back at 10 under. 

Irish hopeful Ruaidhri McGee signed for a 69 to pick up three shots - following round one - and moves back to level par in a share of 40th place. 

At Bogogno a total of 103 players have entered and only the top 24 places [& ties] will qualify. After 54 holes only those players within 7 shots of the final qualifying place will go forward to contest the final round on Friday. 

At Wychwood Park it is also a local player, James Heath of England, carding a second round 70 who takes a one stroke lead from Tyrone Mordt of South Africa and Australian Scott Arnold, who both had second rounds of 69. 

Young amateur Chris Lloyd, who will next week represent Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup, is fourth at four under, two shots back. 

Paul O’Hanlon was the leading Irish challenger on day two after a round of 71 moved him up to level par - in a share of 15th place. 

Dara Lernihan dropped to 3 over par after carding a one over par round of 73. 

Cian Daly moved to 6 over after a signing for a 74 along with Brendan McCaroll -who also carded a 74. 

Cian Curley dropped two shots to move to +9 and is joined by David Rawluk who signed for a round of 81 – dropping back to 70th place after a slid start on day one. 

David Kernohan signed for a 78 to finish on +15. 

David Ruddy carded 85 on day two to move to +18. 

At Wychwood Park 98 players have entered the event and the Stage 2 qualifiers will come from the first 23rd places [and ties]. On Thursday all players within 7 shots of the final qualifying place - 23rd and ties - will make the cut for Friday’s final round.
