Mooney Leads at Dundonald



Damian Mooney secured a one shot lead at the halfway mark of the First Qualifying Stage – Section C at Dundonald Links which was played on Thursday without interruption.


Mooney is one under par following an opening round 77 and a 66 on Thursday, while overnight leader Wallace Booth of Scotland posted a round of 70 to move to level par.


Michael Collins of FORE Ireland is two shots further adrift after a 69 with amateur Charlie Cossins of England in fourth place on three over par.


David Mortimer of FORE Ireland carded a second round of 73 to remain on 8 under with Peter O’Keeffe from Cork.


Barrie Trainor finished on 9 over after a second round of 74.


Tim Rice signed for a 76 to remain 10 over at the halfway stage along with Noel Murray.


Mark Staunton of FORE Ireland finished with a 78 to remain 11 under.


Noel Fox shot 78 to end round two on +13.


Michael Lavelle finished with a 79 for a total score of +14.


Waterville’s David Higgins signed for an 81 and a 15 over par total along with Fergal Rafferty, Gareth Shaw and Daniel Sugrue.


Gary David Cullen was two shots further adrift on +17 after a round of 81.


Reeve Whitson was on +19 after carding 80.


John G Kelly signed for an 81 on Thursday and is +20.


Chris Hughes is on 23 over par after a round of 78.


James Monaghan following a second round of 79 is on +24.


At Dundonald it will be 22nd place [and ties] that qualify for Stage 2 in November in Spain.
