Wasserman Media Group Acquires SFX Golf

Rickie Fowler

Wasserman Media Group has acquired player representation agency SFX Golf in a deal that the global sports and management agency says will create ‘a best-in-class platform for clients’. As a result Wasserman’s combined golf roster now includes the likes of 2010 PGA Tour rookie of the year Rickie Fowler, 2007 Masters winner Zach Johnson and Ryder Cup player Hunter Mahan.

The deal will see SFX Golf chief executive John Mascatello take charge of Wasserman’s new golf practice, reporting to Wasserman’s principal of management, Arn Tellem. SFX agents such as Bud Martin, Terry Reilly, Brad Buffoni and Sam MacNaighton will join Wasserman.

“I had the great pleasure of working collaboratively with each member of the executive team while I was at SFX, and am incredibly excited to join forces with them as we become a leader in the global landscape of golf together at Wasserman,” Tellem said in a statement. “They have built a powerful golf representation firm over the past two decades, and clients will collectively benefit from the Wasserman platform by now also having access to our preeminent management, consulting and sales disciplines.”

Mascatello added: “We are thrilled to become part of Wasserman, and look forward to working with Arn and the entire company to continue to build an unparalleled global practice that will serve clients in the best possible way.”

Wasserman founder Casey Wasserman, writing on Twitter on Monday, said: ‘We are proud to have such an incredible group of people and clients join the company’.

No financial details of the transaction were released, but the move follows Wasserman’s acquisition of British media rights practice Reel Enterprises earlier this year. The company previously purchased SFX Sports Group, one of the world’s largest soccer talent representation agencies.
