Trevor Immelman and Angel Cabrera in 2009
Angel Cabrera of Argentina, Camilo Villegas of Colombia and Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela are the three Latin American stars who earned a spot into this week’s 2011 Masters Tournament.
Winner of the event only two years ago, Cabrera is set to make his twelfth start at the Augusta National Golf Club. This time around he is paired to play the first two rounds along with England’s Ian Poulter and the USA’s David Toms, starting at 11:47 a.m. on Thursday.
Villegas, whose best finish was a tie for the thirteenth spot in 2009, will be starting this event for the sixth time in his career. The Colombian is scheduled to tee off at 8:07 a.m. Thursday, paired with the USA’s Jerry Kelly and Jeff Overton.
The only rookie on the South American front is Vegas, who earned his first Masters invitation by winning the 2011 Bob Hope Classic in his second start as a PGA Tour member.
His playing partners for the first two days of action are the USA’s Gary Woodland and Spain’s Alvaro Quirós, starting at 1:59 p.m. on Thursday.
