The Lakes Course at PGA National of Sweden near Malmö has been chosen as the host venue for The Princess by Schüco, the Henrik Stenson-supported Challenge Tour event from June 30th - July 3rd.
The Lakes Course, which first opened in May 2010, measures a daunting 7,415 yards (6,781 metres) from the back tees.
The main features of the Kyle Phillips-designed Parkland course are its small greens, numerous water hazards and 74 large bunkers.
The day after the event on Monday July 4, Stenson, who named the event in honour of his daughter Lisa, will play World Number One Martin Kaymer in The Princess Charity Challenge to raise funds for the Henrik Stenson Foundation.
Stenson said: “PGA National has got two excellent courses, the Links course and Lakes course, and I’m really look forward to play against the World Number One on the Lakes Course, where there is an exciting and challenging finish over the last few holes. I like Kyle Philips’s risk and reward strategy, which he has also showed on this course and on others he has designed around the world.”
Ove Sellberg, Managing Director of PGA National of Sweden, said: “We’re very excited to welcome the stars of tomorrow for The Princess by Schüco, and after that to see how Martin and Henrik, two of the world’s leading players, will play and manage the various difficulties the course has to offer.
“Kyle Philips has got a fantastic ability to create courses which are both beautiful and challenging. The 16th, 17th and 18th are extremely tough holes which give brave players the opportunity to attack but the risk involved is also a big factor, so it is set up for an exciting finishing.”
For the first time German energy-efficiency firm Schüco International will sponsor the event, which was won last year by Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen.
The tournament’s six other partners are the Swedish Golf Federation, Hugo Boss, BMW, PEAB & PGA of Sweden National.
