Fog Delays Avantha Masters

Heavy fog delayed the start of the Avantha Masters, India's lone co-sanctioned European Tour event, on Thursday.

Storms and rain earlier this week cooled conditions in Delhi and the DLF Golf and Country Club was shrouded in fog when the golfers and officials reached the course on Thursday morning.

Almost three-and-half hours' play was lost to poor visibility before the first group, comprising Indian pro Rahil Gangjee and South Africans Keith Horne and Peter Karmi, teed off.

"The visibility was so low that I could not see the fairways," a Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) official told Reuters.

"You could not see beyond 20-30 feet, it was so bad. Things look better now but I'm afraid quite a few golfers will have to return tomorrow to complete their first round."

While most players huddled in the clubhouse, a few Thai golfers braved the chill and wind to make it to the putting green to fine-tune their short game.

Australian Andrew Dodt defends his title in the Asian Tour season-opener.
