Dermot Desmond and Steve Marino
Dermot Desmond of International and Investment Underwriting [IIU] plays the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am on Sunday with tournament leader Steve Marino after their Pro Am score secured one of the top spots for the all professional round.
Marino will take a one-shot lead into the final round after a 71 at Monterey Peninsula on Saturday to slip to 12-under-par for the week, one stroke ahead of Bryce Molder and Jimmy Walker and two clear of D.A. Points.
With Alex Cejka and Tom Gillis in the mix it means that none of the top six players on the board has won on the PGA Tour victory with only Marino, is ranked in the world's top 100 - at number. 86.
Mickelson shot 69 on Saturday to reach 7-under, five shots off the lead but will need a big score to out gun the 10 players ahead of him.
Marino is a talented 30-year-old from the University of Virginia who might count as the best player on the PGA Tour without a win and has had several chances, most notably at Colonial in 2009. Marino joined Steve Stricker and Tim Clark in a three-way playoff, won by Stricker.
Marino also shared the 36-hole lead in the British Open with Tom Watson before fading on the weekend. His record includes three runner-ups and two third-place finishes.
"I've felt like I had the game to win out here for a while," Marino said. "It just hasn't happened. I'm not going to say I'm due, but I feel like I'm good enough to win on this tour."
It could be that by Sunday evening Desmond is congratulating the latest PGA title winner and playing partner.
