Azahara Muñoz
Azahara Muñoz and Maria Hernandez will make their debuts at the fourth edition of the European Nations Cup 2011 when they combine to make a formidable Spanish team.
The pair will head to La Sella Golf Resort for the event taking place in Denia, Alicante, Spain, from April 14 -17.
Both players earned their place thanks to sensational 2010 seasons on the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour in America, where Muñoz, from Malaga, earned rookie of the year honours.
Hernandez, on the other hand, won her maiden professional title at the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open at the end of May 2010 on the Ladies European Tour. She was second on Europe’s Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year standings behind Korean In Kyung Kim.
Their automatic selection for the Comunitat Valenciana European Nations Cup was based on their positions on the Rolex Women’s World Rankings and the Henderson Money List respectively.
They hope to be the first home winners of the trophy, following victories by Trish Johnson and Rebecca Hudson representing England in 2008, Christel Boeljon and Marjet van der Graaff for the Netherlands in 2009 and Anna Nordqvist and Sophie Gustafson, who successfully combined for Sweden in 2010.
Muñoz and Hernandez will replace the 2010 representatives Tania Elósegui and Emma Cabrera Bello, who last year finished in eighth position. Previously, in 2008 and 2009, the Spanish team comprised Paula Martí and Tania Elósegui, who finished in seventh and sixth place, respectively.
The 2011 Comunitat Valenciana European Nations Cup is a team competition unique to the Ladies European Tour calendar which has built on its success year by year with increased interest in attendance from star name players and the media.
The other players due to represent their countries at this popular event will be announced in due course.Azahara Muñoz.
