Moriarty Joins Northern Duo in Joburg

Darren Clarke and Gareth Maybin remain in South Africa this week for the Joburg Open with Colm Moriarty joining them at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.

On Sunday at the Africa Open, Darren Clarke ended T26 after a final round 68 showing signs of a timely return to form and last year at the Joburg Open Clarke finished in a share of second place helped by an opening round of 59 - which he followed with a 65, 63 and 64.

Gareth Maybin finished on 6 under after a 71 on Sunday to end his first event of the year in a share of 38th place.

Colm Moriarty returns to European Tour action after missing out on qualifying school last season in Spain and finishing outside the top 20 places on the Challenge Tour.

Last year the event was won by South African, Charl Schwartzel, in an event that had a greater Irish representation as it included Michael Hoey, Peter Lawrie, Gary Murphy, Niall Kearney and Simon Thornton.

This season Murphy and Thornton miss out having lost their playing rights with Kearney just failing to make it through the final stage of Q School in Catalunya last December after a season in which he was injured for the most part.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Joburg Open - the tournament which is a co-sanctioned Order of Merit event on the PGA European Tour and Sunshine Tour, and is sponsored by the City of Johannesburg. The event tees off on January 13th, 2011.
