George O’Grady, CBE, Chief Executive of The European Tour, has been named Chairman of the World Golf Foundation’s Board of Directors for 2011. O’Grady succeeds The PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Joe Steranka, who served as the 2010 Board Chairman.
O’Grady has served as The European Tour’s Chief Executive since January 2005. He joined the World Golf Foundation Board in 2006, when the Board was reconfigured to include the chief executives of golf’s leading global organizations. At that same time, it was determined that the role of Chairman should rotate among the golf organization Board members.
“I am honored to help lead the World Golf Foundation’s efforts in 2011,” O’Grady said. “I look forward to helping the Foundation continue to create and support global initiatives that foster the growth and promotion of golf worldwide."
“George brings a global perspective to our board that is vital at a time when golf is growing and expanding in many parts of the world,” said Steve Mona, chief executive officer of World Golf Foundation. “We will benefit from his leadership and vision this year.”
In addition to O’Grady and Steranka, the other World Golf Foundation Directors are Jim Armstrong, Executive Director of The Masters Tournament; Mike Butz, Interim Executive Director of the United States Golf Association; Peter Dawson, Chief Executive of The R&A; Tim Finchem, Commissioner of the PGA TOUR; Michael Whan, Commissioner of the LPGA, and Jesse Saldivar, Senior Advisor, US Business Affairs, Shell Oil Company.
