Harrington Heads for Sun City

Sun City is the venue for the 30th Nedbank Golf Challenge in an anniversary event that includes Padraig Harrington and also sees the return of Ernie Els, a three-time Nedbank Golf Challenge champion, two time winner on the PGA Tour this year.

Another former champion who has also enjoyed a return to his best form this year is Retief Goosen, and together with Tim Clark, who has also had an excellent year on the PGA Tour with a victory in The Players Championship, the South African challenge is further boosted by the inclusion of Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen.

World Number 1 Lee Westwood also joins the field, with Eduardo Molinari, Justin Rose, Miguel-Angel Jimenez and Ross Fisher also competing.

The defending champion Robert Allenby has again been the model of consistency this year, and although Anders Hansen will be considered to be an outsider in this company, if he can produce the brand of golf that earned him the Sunshine Tour’s order of merit last season he will not be outclassed.

Tiger Woods hosts the Chevron World Challenge the same week and is the reason for the lack of top American players in the field.

Adding to a very special 30th Nedbank Golf Challenge the tournament will also feature a senior event to be contested by eight of the game’s most recognisable over-50 champions;

Nick Price and David Frost, as well as previous winners Mark McNulty and Fulton Allem.

Americans Jay Haas, Fred Funk and Tommy Armour III also compete with seniors teeing off ahead of the 12-man field.

A long-driving tournament will held after the first three rounds of the tournament and this event is to be contested by 12 power strikers as well as some long-hitting celebrities, which will be held after the day’s play.

The organisers have secured the participation of the likes of cricketing hero Shaun Pollock, well known as a long hitter, as well as former soccer star Shaun Bartlett, rugby legend Andre Joubert and Albie Morkel.

The 2010 Nedbank Golf Challenge offers a total of $5 million purse, with $1.25 million going to the champion, will be played from December 2nd to 5th.
