This season Peter Lawrie came closest to a second European Tour victory in as many years at the Czech Open where he lost out to a very determined Peter Hanson - who produced a brilliant putt to claim victory in a three way play-off against Gary Boyd and Lawrie – to secure the Swede an all-important place in the European Ryder Cup team.
For Lawrie it was a sign of the good form that has continued all season and his share of third place last week at the Castelló Masters Costa Azahar in Spain – a happy hunting ground for him since 2008 - shows continued consistency.
This week he plays the Andalucia Valderrama Masters in what is his best ever season where he will undoubtedly add to the €697,107 prize money already earned this year.
Peter Lawrie claimed his maiden European Tour victory at the Open de España in 2008 at the Real Club de Sevilla, defeating home favourite Ignacio Garrido in a play-off. A year later as defending champion the Dubliner finished tied third.
Lawrie made history at the end of the 2003 season when he became the first Irish golfer to win the prestigious Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award.
Educated at the University College Dublin where he undertook a golf scholarship Lawrie graduated to The European Tour through the European Challenge Tour, finishing fourth in the Rankings at the end of 2002, helped by a victory in the Challenge Tour Grand Final – a testament to his determination.
Lawrie spent one year on the Asian Tour and three seasons on the Challenge Tour before achieving his goal.
Peter Lawrie was capped at boys, youths and national level for Ireland as an amateur and in his early days as a professional, he played in Asia and Florida, gaining a ‘Mini Tour’ victory in America’s Sunshine State.
