Mooney and Higgins Share Spoils

Damian Mooney recovered from a very poor start at Fota Island in Cork, to share the spoils with Waterville’s David Higgins in the €17,000 Audi 36-holes Pro-Am after the

Dunmurry-born player started with a four over par at the eighth hole.

"Don't ask what happened," snapped Mooney, "It was quite a shock to the system. Fortunately I was able to come back with some birdies."

From a shotgun start Mooney managed to card seven-birdies for a final score of 70 after shooting an opening day 68.

Higgins carded five birdies in a four-under-par 67 to bank 3,300 points and reclaim the top spot in the Lexus Race to Mount Juliet in association with PING which he had lost to David Mortimer last weekend - after the Connemara man claimed the Irish PGA Championship at Seapoint Golf Club.

Darren McWilliams was one stroke behind in third place after rounds of 68 and 72.

Mark Staunton of FORE Ireland finished in a share of fourth place with Robert Giles of Greenore on 3 under.

FORE Ireland’s Philip Walton finished with a 68 to end the two day even on level par.

David Mortimer of FORE Ireland finished six strokes off the pace with a second round 71.

Ted Higgins was 3 over par after two rounds of 73 and joined Barrie Trainor of Team Ireland who signed for the same scores over the two days.

Kevin Dorrian of Scrabo dropped to +12 after a second round 80.
