Alison Walshe Plays US Womens Open

Alison Walshe of Team Ireland takes her place at US Women’s Open having qualified a month ago and joins the elite of the game at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania which is being played from July 8th - 11th 2010.

Having turned professional in 2009 Walshe finished 9th on the DURAMED Futures Tour money list to earn membership of the 2010 LPGA season.  She played her collegiate golf at the University of Arizona, where she was a three time All-American with 10 individual wins. In 2008 she was a member of the victorious US Curtis Team and played for the US World Amateur Team.

Alison Walshe’s family emigrated from Galway to Boston when she was five years old and she decided to declare for Europe last January hoping to earn a place on Alison Nicholas' 2011 Solheim Cup team to play the USA at Killeen Castle next year. Currently Rebecca Coakley is the best placed Irish player in 27th place with Hazel Kavanagh in 36th place.

Last December Walshe won her playing rights on the Ladies European Tour in 2010 and became part of the Team Ireland Golf Trust for this season.
