Paula Creamer
Paula Creamer returns to the Avnet LPGA Classic April 28th - May 1st at Magnolia Grove's Crossings Course.
Creamer hasn't played the Mobile course in more than two years; as she missed last year's event due to thumb surgery, and the 2009 tournament was postponed until last spring. She has excelled on the Crossings as an amateur and a pro.
Paula Creamer will get her first look at the new Crossings course next week.Since her last visit, the course has undergone a serious makeover, so she isn't sure what she'll find when she plays her first practice round in a few days.
"I don't know exactly what's been done," Creamer said in recent telephone interview with the Press-Register. "I liked the course before they made the changes. I didn't want them to make any changes. It was a great golf course before. The greens were really tricky and there were some good tee shots you had to hit, so I'm looking forward to playing it. Hopefully, I'll like it even more than I did before."
At the Crossings, she won the 2002 American Junior Golf Association Robert Trent Jones Junior Classic, and was the runner-up in 2001. In 2007, she won the LPGA Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions select-field tournament by eight shots, and tied for second in 2006.
Since joining the LPGA in 2005, Creamer has more than $8 million in career earnings. Last year, she had three top 10s in 14 tournaments, including her first major win in the U.S. Women's Open. In all, she has nine tour victories.
A crowd favorite wherever she plays, Creamer is off to a good start this season. She has made all five cuts with two top 10s and has earned $194,116. She is currently ranked No. 10 in the Rolex Women's World Rankings.
"I feel great. I can actually focus on golf," said Creamer, who noted March 30 was the one-year anniversary of her thumb surgery. "I feel really good."
