Niall Kearney Makes Cut in Colombia

Will Wilcox

Niall Kearney ended the delayed second round of the Abierto Internacional Copa Antioquia with a three over par 74 to remain level for the tournament - and inside the cut of +1 - despite a double bogey on the par three 13th, to earn a stay over the weekend in Colombia.

American Will Wilcox took over the lead after completing a second round 65 following the previous day’s disruption.

Wilcox was at eight under par when play was suddenly suspended on Friday as a torrential downpour hit Club Campestre in Colombia. On resuming his round he managed to pick up three shots to move to 11 under par 131 and three clear of the field.

Argentina's Rafael Gomez, winner of two titles co-sanctioned by the Challenge Tour and the Tour de las Americas in 2005, held the clubhouse lead overnight on eight under 134 having completed his second round 69 before the suspension and he was joined on that mark by Colombian Jose Manuel Garrido after a 68.

Canadian Brad Fritsch is at seven under par after adding a second round 66 to his opening 69 while five players share fifth place at six under including leading Europeans Peter Gustafsson of Sweden, the 2009 Champion, Wil Besseling of the Netherlands and Welshman Garry Houston. The Colombian pair of Alvaro Pinedo and Diego Vanegas complete the quintet on 136.

Like Gomez and Gustafsson, Besseling is another with previous form in events co-sanctioned with the Tour de las Americas having won the II Club Colombia Masters in 2008, and he is looking to repeat that victory as he bids to regain his European Tour card.

A total of 64 players made the cut on 143 (+1)
