Cabrera-Bello in Moroccan Family Affair

Rafael and Emma Cabrera-Bello

The odds of the name Cabrera-Bello appearing on a golf trophy in Morocco this week will surely be shortened with European Tour star Rafa competing in the Trophée Hassan II less a mile along the road from his sister Emma, who is vying for the Lalla Meryem Cup on the Ladies European Tour.

The Spanish siblings attended the official reception for both events last night, a gala dinner with a difference as The European Tour joined forces with their female counterparts to launch their respective tournaments at the Royal Atlantic Hotel.

The Cabrera-Bello siblings are both delighted to be playing in the same location this week, as they have a rare chance to spend some time together whilst doing the job they love.

“It’s great to be playing in the same place,” said Rafa. “We just never get to do this, to be on Tour at the same time, to be able to talk to each other face-to-face and enjoy each other’s company so it’s great.”

While Rafa plays the Trophée Hassan II over two courses – Golf de L’Ocean and Golf du Palais Royal – Emma will be seeking her first Ladies European Tour victory at the Golf Du Soleil, the venue where Frenchman Adrien Mӧrk carded the first official 59 in the history of The European, Challenge or Senior Tours.

Emma will settle for a little less than a 59 as she gets her season underway in Morocco.

“This is my first event of the season so we will see how it goes. It’s great to have both the men’s and ladies Tours in the same place – it makes the week pretty cool and a little bit different and means that I might have a really good caddie on my bag for the weekend if Rafa misses the cut!”
