Abierto Internacional Round 2 Suspended

Rafael Gomez managed to grab the clubhouse lead at the Abierto International Copa Antioquia before torrential rain brought an abrupt suspension to round two at Club Campestre in Colombia.

The dramatic downpours left European Challenge Tour and Tour de las Americas Officials no choice but to suspend play for the rest of the day at 14:39 local time. Round two will resume at 07:00 on Saturday morning.

After a 30 minute fog delay on Friday morning, Gomez carded a second round 69 to grab the clubhouse lead of eight under par 134 before the rain forced a suspension with Colombia’s José Manuel Garrido and American Will Wilcox also on eight under but yet to complete their day’s work.

Dutchman Wil Besseling and Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg are leading the European charge for the title, with Besseling posting a second round of five under par 66 for a six under halfway total.

Besseling is no stranger to success in events co-sanctioned with the Tour de las Americas having won the II Club Colombia Masters in 2008, and he looking to repeat that victory as he bids to regain his European Tour card.

Lundberg, meanwhile, is a shot behind Besseling – three off the clubhouse lead – on five under par after adding his own 66 to a first round 71.
