PGA Tour moves to Phoenix


2011 President’s Cup Captain Fred Couples, 20 time PGA TOUR winner and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, two-time PGA TOUR winner Paul Goydos and Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson are among the last commitments to the 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open. 

The 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played this at the TPC Scottsdale and  field includes 17 of the top-30 and 98 of the top-125 money leaders from the 2010 season.

The field of 132 players will be chaisng the $6.1 million purse, the $1,098,000 first-place check and 500 FedExCup points.

Phil Mickelson (No. 6), Dustin Johnson (No. 16), Hunter Mahan (No. 21), Robert Allenby (No. 25),Geoff Ogilvy (No. 26), Rickie Fowler (No. 31) and Anthony Kim (No. 32) are the highest ranked players on the Official World Golf Ranking currently in the field. Other top-ranked players who committed include Bubba Watson (No. 33), Nick Watney (T-No. 37), Ben Crane (T-No. 37), Camilo Villegas (No. 41), Sean O’Hair (No. 42), Bo Van Pelt (No. 43), Y.E. Yang (No. 44), Ryan Moore (No. 46), Martin Laird (No. 47) and Bill Haas (No. 50).

Mark Calcavecchia (1989, 1992 and 2001), Phil Mickelson (1996 and 2005), Jesper Parnevik (1998), Rocco Mediate (1999), Tom Lehman (2000), Chris DiMarco (2002), Singh (1995 and 2003), J.B. Holmes (2006 and 2008), Aaron Baddeley (2007), Kenny Perry (2009) and Hunter Mahan (2010) are the other former FBR/Waste Management Phoenix Open champions in the field. 

Local golfers in the field include: Aaron Baddeley, Ricky Barnes, Robert Garrigus, Martin Laird, Tom Lehman, Billy Mayfair, Geoff Ogilvy, Pat Perez, Jeff Quinney, Chez Reavie, Kevin Streelman, and Bubba Watson.

The tournament host Thunderbirds have raised more than $70 million for charities, with more 
than $41 million generated since 2004. The 2011 edition will mark the 76th playing of the event, making it  one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR (not including the major championships).
