Ireland Finish 6th In Buenos Aires

Having almost played their way out of the tournament on the opening day, Ireland made a spirited comeback over the closing two rounds to finish in sixth place, behind France, in the World Amateur Team Championship, which was shortened to 54 holes due to the inclement weather that led to much of day two being lost.

Alan Dunbar (Rathmore) and Portstewart's Paul Cutler - pictured - fired the counting rounds in the second 18 with a pair of one-over-par 73's to improve Ireland's position to tied for 21st with a round to play.

Cutler closed with an impressive 71 and Kevin Phelan (University of North Florida) added a fine 72 to help Ireland to storm into the top ten on a day when many teams failed to cope with the testing conditions over at Buenos Aires Golf Club.

Ireland's final round total of one-under-par 143 was the joint best of the day alongside the USA while Paul Cutler finished tied for 11th on the individual leader board.
